Predation














I found this Whitetail dragonfly (Libellula lydia) that caught a Ladybug (unknown). The picture was taken at Hopkinton State Park Hopkinton, MA beside a stream near the main beach.

Organisms in Different Animal Phyla


These shells were found at the Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts located on Beach Road, off Route 1A in Salisbury, MA. This beach extends from the Merrimack River to the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border. These shells would classify as members of the Phylum Mollusca.

Endangered Species

This is a Hyacinth Macaw. Its scientific name is Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus. This macaw is the largest member of the parrot family. They inhabit forest, palm groves, and swamps in parts of Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. They feed on nuts, seeds, and fruits. Female Hyacinth macaw normally lay up to 2 eggs. They are now considered endangered species.

Plant Reproductive Structures



This is Caesalpinia gillesii (Bird of Paradise). I found it in Henderson, Nevada along the road. I thought this flower is unique because of its exposed reproductive organs (long stamen) that extend way past the petals.

Moluccan Cockatoo

This is a Moluccan Cockatoo; its scientific name is Cacatua moluccensis. These birds are one of the largest members of the cockatoo family. These birds feed on fruit, nuts, and insects. At the current stage it is considered an endangered species. I took this picture at the Southwick Zoo; 2 Southwick Street, Mendon MA.
